Mission
The ARS National Soil and Air Program has as its mission: to improve the quality of atmosphere and soil resources affected by, and having an effect on agriculture, and to understand the effects of, and prepare agriculture for, adaptation to climate change.
Program Priorities
In planning and conducting Soil and Air research, ARS will focus our efforts on several specific priorities:
- Management and stewardship of soil resources
- Managing nutrients in agroecosystems
- Reducing environmental risk of agricultural operations
Research formerly under ARS's national program for Agricultural and Industrial By-products has been consolidated with the Soil and Air program effective FY2017.
