Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Noroviruses have emerged as the number one cause of food-borne illness in the United States. In this book chapter, the current molecular classification criteria are described as well as the current information regarding the molecular biology of the virus and its putative gene functions. Identification and control strategies are discussed along with recent information regarding virus and host genetics as related to susceptibility, innate and adaptive immunity, and immune evasion by norovirus strain mutations.
