Research agenda from: promises and perils of lycopene/tomato supplementation and cancer prevention. Journal of Nutrition 135(8):2074S. Interpretive Summary: This “Research Agenda” is a summary of critical areas for future research on lycopene and tomato. These priority research topics were generated from presentations and discussions in conjunction with a workshop entitled Promises and Perils of Lycopene/Tomato Supplementation and Cancer Prevention, and this document is a companion paper for the Proceedings papers from that workshop. A group of scientists who have expertise in lycopene, the red pigment in tomato, held the workshop where they presented data, discussed the state of the science, and identified gaps in knowledge pertaining health benefits of lycopene and tomato products. This information is of interest to scientists who study carotenoids and their roles in promoting human health. Technical Abstract: This “Research Agenda” is a short summary of critical areas for future research on lycopene and tomato. These priority research topics were generated from presentations and discussions in conjunction with a workshop entitled Promises and Perils of Lycopene/Tomato Supplementation and Cancer Prevention, and this document is a companion paper for the Proceedings papers from that workshop. |
