Objective:
a) Breeding Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) resistant durum wheat
b) Screen durum germplasm for FHB resistance in greenhouses and field nurseries
c) Evaluate germplasm for DON
d) Use marker assisted selection at USDA-ARS genotyping center in Fargo, ND
e) FHB resistant lines for quality
f) Develop new populations using new sources of resistance
Approach:
We will use a modified pedigree breeding method to evaluate segregating populations each year. First, we will evaluate lines
for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) resistance either in greenhouses or in fields. We will select lines with less than 30% disease severity to evaluate in yield trials at multiple locations in North Dakota.
