Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera. Stenstrup, Denmark: Apollo Books. p. 88-89, 251-261. Interpretive Summary: Weevils are one of the largest families of beetles with many agricultural pest species. Catalogues are important tools for summarizing taxonomic, nomenclatural, distributional, and bibliographic information about organisms. This catalogue reviews all of the approximately 100,000 species of a group of weevils known from Europe, northern Africa, and large parts of Asia. It is the first work in this group of insects that provides a complete list of verified references to primary descriptions. This information will be used by scientists and action agencies that are concerned with exotic weevil species to the U.S. Technical Abstract: The palaearctic weevils of the subfamily Baridinae are catalogued. Two subgenera are raised to full generic rank, 12 genera are transferred from incertae sedis to tribes and subtribes, 25 species names are transferred to other genera and nine are synonymized. A total of 215 primary references were checked in terms of availability, date of publication, bibliographical data, authorship and spelling of names. |
