New species of Sematoneura, Nevacolima, and Eulogia (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) from Costa Rica.

Interpretive Summary: Insects attacking timber and fruit trees cause millions of dollars in losses each year. Four species new to science related to caterpillars that feed on both timber and fruit trees were discovered in Costa Rica. Illustrations and photographs are provided so that these species can be readily compared and identified by researchers. This information will be useful to scientists, and action agency identifiers and regulatory personnel at ports.

Technical Abstract: Four new species of phycitines collected in Costa Rica are described. They are: Sematoneura costaricana, Nevacolima pitilla, Nevacolima georgina, and Eulogia duosigna. Habitus photographs of the four moths and line drawings of the male labial palpus, antenna and genitalia of all species, and line drawings of the female genitalia of two of the species, are included.
