Technical Abstract: Asa Fitch was one the earliest North American workers in aphid systematics. His extensive notes and observations provided the basis for the numerous aphid species that he described from the 1830s until the 1870s. For nearly 100 years these notes have been largely forgotten. Current efforts have now brought Fitch's work to light. Nearly 780 pages of notes have been digitized and databased in order to develop a web page where these pages can be viewed. Fitch's notes have already provided the basis for re-evaluating time of introduction for several species of invasive aphids (e.g., the cabbage aphid) and his unpublished host records and collection dates give new insight into aphid biology.
