Interpretive Summary: Many caterpillars are well known as stored product pests and a new group of moths related to them is described. It includes one species, known previously only from one female. Previously known only from Guatemala, it was discovered to occur in Costa Rica and Brazil. This research is part of a project in Costa Rica to study the Neotropical fauna outside the United States and is an important contribution to knowledge about possible invasive species. Illustrations are provided for the moth species so that it can be readily identified by quarantine and scientific personnel. This information will be useful to both action agency identifiers and regulatory personnel at ports and scientists.

Technical Abstract: A new genus, Tumariola is proposed for Ragonot's Neotropical phycitine species, subaquilella. The previously unknown male is described and the occurrence of this species in Costa Rica and Brazil is reported for the first time. Males in the genus are characterized by a unique, raised cluster of scales on the upper surface of the forewing, and slender genitalia with a tegumen bearing earlike lobes. Females have a strongly developed diverticulum about midway on the ductus bursae. Photographs of the adults, male, and line drawings of wing venation, labial palpus, and antenna, and male and female genitalia are included.
