Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Vegetable oil based grease is considered as a potential replacement for mineral oil based grease due to environmental reasons. These are mainly restricted to applications where the grease could come in direct contact with soil and water. This work mainly focuses on the development of soybean oil based grease using a variety of fatty acid components to make the thickener (metal salt). The physical and chemical properties of grease are discussed in terms of the fatty acid structure, metal to acid ratio, acid to oil ratio, etc. A transmission electron microscopic (TEM) methodology was developed to study the nature and structure of dispersoid in grease matrix and their effects on the physical and chemical behavior.
