Objective:
This project will evaluate integrated fungicide and host resistance strategies for managing FHB and DON in soft red winter wheat, compare new fungicides and application programs with current standards, quantify their economic benefits, and generate data to improve FHB risk prediction models.
Approach:
Field trials at the Virginia Tech Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center will compare fungicides, cultivar resistance, and application timing using inoculated wheat plots under commercial production practices. FHB, DON, yield, and weather data will be collected and analyzed to evaluate treatment efficacy, economics, and improve FHB forecasting tools.
