Objective:
Initiate and conduct product development research that supports Alaska's emerging seaweed mariculture industry by identifying and advancing high -potential seaweed based products such as livestock feeds, biostimulants, soil amendments, cosmetics, and novel food products.
Approach:
Alaska is uniquely positioned to lead the nation in sustainable mariculture innovation. With expanding interest in seaweed farming, there is an urgent need to align federal research support with industry needs. This project seeks to host an national workshop taht will incorporate producer input into federal strategic priority planning and initiate targeted product development research a to support the commercialization of seaweed-based products.
