Location: Office of The Area Director
Project Number: 6001-10700-001-003-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 15, 2024
End Date: Sep 14, 2028
Objective:
To determine if relationships between perceived (self-rated) and objective measures of health behavior exist, particularly those related to nutrition and food, and to explore factors that individuals think about when asked to rate aspects of their health.Continued development of a new questionnaire designed to assess perceived diet quality will be conducted to determine discriminant validity and to validate the questionnaire in populations of women who donate breast milk to Human Milk Banking Association of North America accredited milk banks. The study also will include dietary assessments to allow for determination of relationships between perceived and objective measures of diet quality as well as establish convergent validity for the new perceived diet quality instrument.
Objective 2 - Identify factors individuals consider when rating their perceived diet quality.
This agreement will compliment the parent project by: (1) exploring associations between self-assessed and measured diet quality in different populations, including human milk bank donors; and (2) elucidating factors individuals think about when assessing their health behaviors.
Name and affiliation of Cooperator PI: Alicia Landry, The University of Southern Mississippi
Percent of SY time that will be spent on the project: 20%
Percent of technical time spent on the project: 0% (support scientist vacancy)
Approach:
Researchers will design and implement studies to concurrently measure perceived (self-rated) and objective measures of health behavior, including but not limited to dietary intake, to determine if relationships exist, and if so, to quantify their strength. Additionally, accurate assessment of perceived health behaviors will be explored.
