Research Project: Developing Diverse Solutions for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) in Wheat

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-130-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2022
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
Objectives include: 1) Screen NABSEN winter barley lines for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) response; 2) Identification, validation and deployment of FHB -7AS susceptibility factor in wheat; and 3) Evaluation of fungicide combinations, timing, and integration with genetic resistance for FHB in wheat and barley.

Approach:
Approaches will include: 1) Barley lines received from the NABSEN coordinator, will be evaluated for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) indices and DON content; 2) Deletion mapping of FHB-7AS-Susceptibility factor, Candidate gene identification and validation will be done; and 3) New fungicide chemistries and combinations will be evaluated for managing FHB and DON in SRW wheat and barley.
