Objective:
The goal is to characterize genetic diversity across the Fusarium graminearum species complex (FGSC) and the tendency of nearby genetic variants to co-occur in individuals, and to screen for patterns of variants consistent with crosses between related species that transfer genes from one species into the gene pool of another.
Approach:
We will assemble the genome sequences of 40-70 isolates from under-represented species within the FGSC and use tools to identify sequences from isolates of Fusarium graminearum that have originated from these other species, potentially through genetic exchanges across species barriers.
