Objective:
Identify novel Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance from wheat wild relatives, develop cytogenetically defined introgression lines using chromosome engineering, and validate resistance-associated loci through field-based QTL analysis. Generate breeder-ready germplasm and diagnostic molecular markers to enable efficient selection and deployment in wheat breeding programs.
Approach:
Screen wheat–alien germplasm for FHB resistance, generate introgression lines using chromosome engineering (Robertsonian translocations and ph1b-induced recombination), and characterize alien chromatin with GISH and skim sequencing. Integrate field phenotyping with genotyping-by-sequencing to map, validate resistance loci, and develop diagnostic molecular markers for breeding deployment.
