Objective:
The overall goal of this research is to develop winter-hardy, high-yielding hard red winter wheat with durable FHB resistance and low DON levels by integrating diverse resistance QTL from exotic and native sources, strengthening genetic backgrounds, and evaluating fungicide responses to produce resilient, high-quality cultivars for stakeholders.
Approach:
Enhance FHB resistance by crossing diverse exotic and native sources and using marker-assisted selection to combine resistance with winter hardiness, yield, and quality. Advance populations via single-seed descent and evaluate annually in yield and fungicide trials to assess FHB, DON, agronomic performance, and end-use quality.
