Objective:
Our objectives are to continue to develop varieties of spring wheat adapted to ND which are moderately resistant or better, to Fusarium Head Blight. In doing this, we will continue to increase efficiency of data collection and line advancement with regard to resistance.
Approach:
We will utilize Marker Assisted Selection for major FHB resistance genes in first-year breeding trials, and genomic prediction for FHB related traits. To increase genetic diversity, we are also introgressing Fhb7 into our program. To minimize post-harvest processing, we’re focusing more on Fusarium damaged kernel data, which is more quantitative.
