Objective:
1. Perform inoculated screening of uniform and advanced regional nurseries.
2. Release soft red winter wheat cultivars with combined FHB and Hessian fly resistance.
3. Deploy genomic prediction a generation earlier to improve FHB resistance and yields gains.
4. Conduct rapid cycling to accelerate the development of FHB resistant cultivars.
Approach:
Irrigated, inoculated headrows will quantify FHB resistance for 6,450 breeding lines. Cross and topcross elite parents to create segregating populations for year-over-year selections. Genotype F5 lines from every family and 250 new doubled haploids for genomic prediction of FHB resistance and grain yield. Share selected doubled haploids with VDHR-SWW breeders.
