Bales of corn stover (stalks, leaves, husks, and cobs) in a field in York, Nebraska, after harvest. Corn stover and other harvest leftovers such as wheat or rice straw may soon be more economical to ferment into cellulosic ethanol, thanks to ARS research with a promising new yeast for biorefineries.
