BARC scientists produce the first successful vaccine to immunize cattle against brucellosis, a serious disease that causes high incidences of abortions, among other effects. Elk (above) are reservoirs of the disease, which is is transmissible to other animals and humans. Brucellosis research continues at ARS laboratories in Ames, Iowa.
