Soybean Genetics and Breeding News

News:

• Dr. Sungwoo Lee successfully defended his dissertation on April 5, 2013.  His project was focused on identifying QTL which confer resistance to Phytophthora sojae in 6 soybean populations developed from Chinese and South Korean germplasm.  Dr. Rouf Mian and Dr. Anne E. Dorrance were his co-advisors. Dr. Lee will soon start working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate under the joint supervision of Drs. Rouf Mian and Andrew Michel.
• Dr. Dayong Zhang, Associate Professor, Northeastern Agricultural University, Harbin, China will join the ARS Soybean Research group in Wooster as a Visiting Scholar in August 2013 to conduct research on pest resistance in soybean for a year.
• Masters student, Keith Freewalt, co-advised by Drs. Rouf Mian and Leah McHale successfully defended his Masters Research Proposal on April 10, 2013. Keith was recently awarded a six month Research Internship by the Monsanto Company at its research station in Maryland.
