Technical Abstract: Local gene expression of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) following E. acervulina was investigated in the duodenum and caecal tonsils using a quantitative competitive reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR). IFN-gamma transcripts were detected in the intestine and caecal tonsils at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 days post primary infection (PPI) with E. acervulina with a maximum expression at 6 DPI in the duodenum and at 4 DPI in the caeca tonsils. These results indicate that IFN-gamma is one of the cytokines induced by E. acervulina.
