The study was established at the University of Illinois South Farm, Urbana. The soil was a Flanagan silt loam with a pH of 6.3 and 4.7% organic matter. Dekalb 592SR corn was planted 1.5 inches deep on April 17 in 30 inch rows. Treatments were arranged in randomized complete blocks with 3 replications of plots 10 by 35 feet. Herbicides were applied with a CO2 backpack sprayer delivering 20 gpa and equipped with 8003 flat fan nozzles for preemergence and 8002 nozzles for postemergence. Corn tolerance was very good to excellent for all sethoxydim treatments. Sethoxydim applied alone early postemergence provided control of giant foxtail that was equal to soil applied chloroacetamide herbicides or early postemergence applications of nicosulfuron. Sethoxydim did not influence broadleaf weed control of post herbicides. |
