Interpretive Summary: The CO2 concentration of the atmosphere is increasing which may affect plant growth and agricultural productivity in the future. In order to determine just what effects these elevated CO2 concentrations will have on crop growth, plants need to be grown at controlled high concentrations of CO2 around their leaves. This paper is an instruction manual which describes the procedures for construction of chambers to expose plants to elevated CO2, for the operation of instruments to control the CO2 concentration, and for the analysis of CO2 concentration data. This manual will aid the conduction of experiments, which will reveal what plant responses can be expected in the future and what strategies should be taken to mitigate problems and maximize benefits for all growers and consumers of food and fiber.
