Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 8/1/1994 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: In two experiments, congenic lines of chickens that were selected for high (H) and low (L) antibody response to SRBC and typed for B-G MHC genotypes (GTP) B13B13, B13B21, and B21B21, were immunized with SRBC or PBS. Blood and spleens were processed for % B+, CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes by flow cytometry at 0, 3, 9 and 24 hr post-antigen (pAg) injection. Plasma T3, T4 and ACTH were determined by RIA. There were significant time pAg changes in cell percentages and hormone levels. CD4+ cells in blood and spleen were significantly higher in the B21B21 than in the B13B13 GTP, with the B13B13 intermediate, suggesting that the MHC influence is through helper T-cell activity. Plasma ACTH levels were highest in the B21B21 GTP and in SRBC-treated birds, but only in the L lines, resulting in significant GTP and Ag x line interactions. These results indicate the MHC and Ag-related hormone responses are influenced by genetic background. |
