Interpretive Summary: Hydrelliaeucoila egeria, is a new genus and species of parasitical wasp that attacks pupae of Hydrellia sp. nov., which is a small shore fly mining in leaves and stems of Egeria densa (Brazilian Elodea). Diagnostic photographs and data about the biology of this parasitoid are included. This parasitoid is probably specific to the fly, which is in turn under study as a biocontrol agent against Egeria in California. Specific natural enemies often keep natural populations under check, meaning that biocontrol agents are expected to be much more efficient in their new environments once they are freed from their natural enemies. Identifying and studying these natural enemies can help us predict the impact of our biocontrol agents in the field.

Technical Abstract: Hydrelliaeucoila egeria, a new genus and species obtained from pupae of Hydrellia sp. nov. (Diptera: Ephydridae) mining in Egeria densa Planchon (Hydrocharitaceae), is described. Diagnostic photographs and data about the biology of this parasitoid are included.
