Insect pathogens: molecular approaches and techniques. Oxford, United Kingdom: Council of Applied Biology International (CABI). 417 p. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This book serves as a primer for molecular techniques in insect pathology and is tailored for a wide scientific audience. Contributing authors are internationally recognized experts. The book comprises four sections: 1) pathogen identification and diagnostics, 2) pathogen population genetics and phylogeny, 3) host-pathogen interactions, and 4) genomics and genetic improvement. Each section has chapters covering each of the major microbial pathogen groups. The book is timely because of the heightened concern about pathogen identification and diagnosis incorporating advancing molecular techniques. These technical advances are also helping scientists make new discoveries to unravel details of pathogen diversity, infection mechanisms, and genetic improvement for pest control. Chapter authors review the literature and the most recent technological advances in their fields. Each chapter contains detailed protocols with information on reagents, primers, markers and useful genes, as well as troubleshooting advice. |
