Technical Abstract: Hydrogels are a class of viscoelastic materials that have many biomedical utilization potentials, such as drug delivery, wound care product, breast implant materials, and tissue engineering, etc. Hydrogels produced from biopolymers and/or natural sources have particular advantages in vivo applications since they are more likely biodegradable and biocompatible. Because soy-based composites contain fatty acid residues that can be readily attacked by lipase-secreting bacteria, the family of the materials is generally regarded as biodegradable. Soybean oil is composed of triglycerides with structures of double bonds. By reacting with peroxide compounds, soybean oil can be converted into epoxidized soybean oil (ESO). Recently, Liu et al. developed a new biopolymer hydrogel using ESO. In this work, the viscoelastic properties of hydrolytic polymerized ESO (HPESO) hydrogel were investigated.
