In vitro transformation properties of the Meq protein of MDV [abstract]. American Association of Avian Pathologists/American Veterinary Medical Association Abstract. p. 124. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Marek's disease virus (MDV) type 1 is the causative agent of Marek's disease a T-cell lymphoma in chickens. In our laboratory, two MDV strains, Md5, and CVI988 are being investigated for mechanisms of tumor formation. Though both the strains express meq, a MDV oncogene, only Md5 but not CVI988 virus causes T cell lymphoma. We cloned meqs (Md5 meq, CVI988 meq & CVI988 long meq) in a retroviral system to study their in vitro transformation properties. All three Meq proteins induced morphological changes, focus formation, and colonies in soft agar in both rat-2 and NIH 3T3 cells. |
