Technical Abstract: Exchange processes at the earth's surface control the partitioning of energy, interception and distribution of rainfall, transport of contaminants, and the factors that affect human existence. The goal of this book is to "provide the basic physical knowledge required to understand the processes involved in the sustainable use of the earth's land and water resources". The book exceeds in achieving its stated goal and Dr. Rose is to be commended for his efforts in assembling a book that can be used in introductory courses in environmental sciences. Another unstated goal of this book is that using this book will create a more conversant population about the realities of our environmental problems and potential solutions to these problems.
