Interpretive Summary: This manuscript discusses the importance of sample preparation on assay of phytochemicals from food samples. Optimization of sample preparation is critical for accurate analysis of micronutrient present in different food matrices. Precise determination of these phytochemicals will enable researchers to accurately evaluate the role of phenolics compounds and other phytonutrients in diet and other health significance. In addition, it will enable nutritionists and food professionals to establish appropriate dietary intakes and safety guidelines.

Technical Abstract: Phenolic compounds are ubiquitously distrubted throughout the plant kingdom. There is overwhelming evidence from epidemiological, in vivo, in vitro, and clinical trials that clearly indicates that the phenolic compounds present in foods can reduce risk of cancer, cariovascular, and other chronic diseases. Accurate anlysis of phenolic micronutrients is critical for presicely quantifying the amount of phenolic compounds present in different foods, establishing appropriate dietary intake guidelines, and understanding their role as it relates to health and nutrition area. This paper shows that importance of optimization of sample preparation procedure for accurate analysis of phenolic micronutrients in differnt food matrices.
