Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Much work has been done on demonstrating inactivation and performing time/temperature studies to permit shipment under USDA permit of avian pathogens on Whatman FTA Indicating Filter paper cards for subsequent DNA/RNA analysis. The work presented here continues with the addition of Avian Pneumovirus (APV) to the list of transportable pathogens. This work demonstrates that APV can be applied to Whatman FTA Indicating Filter paper cards and the RNA extracted and detected by RT-PCR the same day(0), 4, 7, 10, and 14 days post-FTA inoculation on cards stored at room temperature and 37C. Reisolation studies are under way to confirm inactivation of APV on the FTA.
