Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Recent research has shown that biological, environmental, and physical factors often affect survival of insects exposed to inert dusts used as part of organic pest management programs. The red flour beetle and the confused flour beetle are two very common pests of storage facilities, and they respond differently to insecticides, particularly inert dusts. Topics presented for discussion include the impact of food material, effects of variation in temperature and relative humidity, and differences between these two insect species as related to efficacy of inert dusts.
