The flush of co2: drying and rewetting vs. chloroform fumigation in soil. American Society of Agronomy Meetings. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Since soils are naturally dry and rewet in the field, CO2 evolution from soil dried and rewetted in the laboratory may closely mimic the natural drying and rewetting cycles. The flush of CO2 from drying and rewetting is most likely from the partial desiccation of the active microbial biomass. Therefore, researchers may find this rapid flush of CO2 a useful tool in a variety of applications, including soil microbial biomass or microbial activity. |
