Principal among these are their dependence on intimate contact with the insect cuticle and sensitivity to environmental parameters and innumerable biotic factors related to host behavior and physiology. The possession of these traits greatly complicates the testing and evaluation of fungi as biological insecticides and has led to development of many unique methodologies. In this paper, we provide an overview of specific methods that will aid researchers in evaluating the efficacy of fungi under field conditions. Our primary focus is on methods for assessing efficacy of hyphomycete and entomophthoralean pathogens. |
