Journal of the American Water Resources Association, 35(4):991-992. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This book succeeds in its attempt to serve as a text for an undergraduate course in physical hydrology aimed at "upper-level undergraduates majoring in environmental or Earth science." Obviously, several years of teaching experience have gone into writing this book. The book is accompanied by a CD-ROM Web version of the text, video demonstrations, and interactive review questions. Users with access to MATLAB can also run simulation tools from the CD-ROM for the study of hydrological processes. The CD-ROM worked flawlessly and should prove to be a valuable teaching aid. The book is well organized and written simply enough that upper level undergraduates should find it to be a useful text. It would be one of my first choices as a text in any basic to intermediate hydrology course I would teach. The CD-ROM is a welcome addition and will prove to be an effective teaching aid. Chapters on statistics, unit conversions, and a glossary are also well lpresented. The book is too elementary for practicing water resource professionals, but it only claims to be a basic text book. It serves its stated purpose well. |
