Objective:
The objectives of this research are to: 1) identify genes associated with Fusarium head blight resistance in durum wheat and transfer to adapted cultivars for use by breeders in the region, 2) expand the capacity of the North Dakota screening nurseries for durum and spring wheat and 3) identify genes associated with Fusarium head blight resistance in spring wheat for use by breeders in the region.
Approach:
The researcher will use a combination of molecular techniques and screening to identify novel sources of resistance to Fusarium head blight and transfer to adapted background for use by breeders. Additionally, expansion of screening nurseries will allow for more robust evaluation of breeding lines and germplasm for the region.
