Research Project: Elastic Nonwovens Containing Cotton Fibers

Location: Cotton Chemistry and Utilization Research

Project Number: 6054-41000-108-002-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2017
End Date: May 31, 2019

Objective:
Develop technology enabling stretchable and flexible cotton containing elastic nonwovens and evaluate fabric physical properties to optimize the incorporation of cotton fibers.

Approach:
Incorporate cotton fibers in melt blown and spunbond elastomeric nonwoven webs. Evaluate these nonwovens for physical properties and investigate the effect of cotton composition on the structure and properties of the produced nonwovens. Optimize the amount of cotton fibers that can be added in these nonwovens while maintaining desirable physical properties.
