Project Number: 6206-13610-007-28-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Apr 21, 2012
End Date: Sep 30, 2013
This work will continue support of the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP) for Cropland, a multi-agency effort led by NRCS to provide policy and decision makers with an assessment of the environmental benefits of implementing conservation practices. The results from the work supported by the agreement will provide USDA, NRCS, and our partners with information to support sustainable agricultural policies to protect natural resources, specifically health of agro-ecosystems and reductions of agricultural related non-point source pollution through conservation program implementation on cropland. It will also help guide and optimize the expenditure of conservation resources by government and private landowners.
ARS will provide modeling, documentation, and technical support for: 1) the remaining CEAP basins (Texas Gulf, South Atlantic and Pacific Northwest, 2) the watershed modeling for the re-survey of the Chesapeake Bay, and 3) development of small watershed modeling techniques in support of NRCS initiative areas. This will include development of new algorithms in the SWAT watershed model, related GIS and database tools, and analysis of CEAP calibration and scenario analysis. SWAT output will be analyzed and the model will be refined to meet CEAP assessment requirements.
