1a. Objectives (from AD-416)
Obtain performance data and/or residue samples or analyze crop samples to support the registration of minor-use pesticides for food, ornamental and specialty crops.
1b. Approach (from AD-416)
Minor-use pesticides alone or in combination with cultural and mechanical methods will be evaluated under field, orchard, nursery and greenhouse conditions through determination of pest control by species, crop injury and crop yield. Plant samples will be collected for determination of pesticide residues according to protocols and good laboratory practices specified by the National IR-4 Headquarters.
3. Progress Report
IR-4, ARS, Food Use Program: Residue data was collected on 15 projects conducted using Good Laboratory Practices at 2 remote locations and on-site at the OARDC, Wooster. ARS food-use field support staff cooperated in the 2011 field studies with Ohio State University, Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OSU/OARDC) scientists and local muck crop growers. Muck soils are darkly colored, finely divided, well decomposed organic soils associated with the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center Muck Crops Agricultural Research Station in Williard, Ohio. IR-4, ARS Ornamental Crop Program: The Wooster, OH, ARS, IR-4 program continued with 32 insecticide, fungicide efficacy and plant safety trials. The IR-4 program is one of the most important for fruit, vegetable, greenhouse and nursery growers as evidenced by grower comments during numerous on-site visits during Spring and Summer of 2011. ARS field support staff cooperated in the 2011 field studies with Ohio State University staff, Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OSU/OARDC) scientists at the Secrest Arboretum and with local growers.
