Agropyron mosaic virus detected in Ohio wheat (Triticum aestivum). Plant Disease. 102(2):463. Interpretive Summary: Agropyron mosaic virus (AgMV) was identified in Ohio wheat during a 2016 field survey. AgMV has previously been described in Colorado and Kansas, and was first reported in Ontario, Canada. Isolated Ohio AgMV infected wheat, ryegrass, and rye, but not oat, maize, sorghum, or orchardgrass. This is the first report of AgMV in Ohio. Technical Abstract: Agropyron mosaic virus (AgMV) was identified in Ohio wheat during a 2016 field survey by RNA-Seq. AgMV was confirmed in 3 counties by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, and transmitted to wheat. Isolated Ohio AgMV infected wheat, ryegrass, and rye, but not oat, maize, sorghum, or orchardgrass. AgMV was detected in wheat in three Ohio counties, but its impact on wheat yield has not been assessed. This is the first report of AgMV in Ohio. |
