Interpretive Summary: The Soft Wheat Quality Lab evaluates milling and baking quality for nearly all the wheat cultivars marketed from Missouri to the Atlantic seaboard. It also publishes new methods and research in the area of milling and flour quality. This research is transferred through the Annual Research Review meeting, held each March in Wooster, OH and through on-site and on-line support during the year. The Research Review Annual Report catalogs the activity of the laboratory for the year including reports produced for regional breeders and special projects that provide reference for cultivar selection and future research.

Technical Abstract: The report describes activities for the lab between March 2012 and March 2013, including transitions in the laboratory, results of wheat milling and quality evaluations, molecular evaluation of a major translocation on chromosome 2B and newly released varietal descriptions. Targets for quality analyses are summarized to educate the wheat community and elicit discussions of quality testing parameters relevant to breeders and industry. Stem rust resistant wheat varieties are presented. Results from the 2012 wheat crop for the Soft Wheat Quality Council analyses and U.S. Wheat Overseas Varietal Analysis are included. The report summarizes the results of collaborative breeder cultivar evaluations and includes a compilation of methods used at the SWQL.
