Research Project: National Predictive Modeling Tool Initiative

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00102-001-000-D
Project Type: In-House Appropriated

Start Date: Apr 2, 2020
End Date: Apr 1, 2025

Objective:
The overall goals of the National Predictive Modeling Tool Initiative (NPMTI) are: 1) to ensure crop sustainability and crop quality, 2) to increase precision and potentially reduce pesticide use, 3) to improve soil health through soil-borne disease quantification, and 4) to improve disease management thereby reducing yield losses.

Approach:
The goals will be achieved by modeling disease risks based upon quantifying the pathogen (spore) densities within a field, considering hybrid/varietal genetics, soil type and other agronomic factors, and integrating weather-based prediction models.
