Research Project: Effects of Growing Conditions and Harvesting Time on Milling and Baking Quality of Wheat Varieties Grown in Ohio

Location: Corn, Soybean and Wheat Quality Research

Project Number: 5082-43440-002-010-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2022
End Date: Jan 27, 2024

Objective:
Determine the effects of precipitation/growing location on milling and baking quality of wheat, and harvest time on milling and baking quality of wheat.

Approach:
Precipitation/growing location on milling and baking quality of wheat: both U.S. and Korean wheat varieties will be grown in a number of locations in Ohio and evaluated for their grain, milling and flour quality characteristics to determine the effects of growing conditions. In Year 1, three U.S. soft red winter wheat varieties with four replications will be grown in five locations. The grain samples (60 total) will be available for milling and baking quality evaluation. Due to the lack of seeds, Korean varieties will be grown in five different locations next crop year. We will increase the seeds of five Korean varieties by planting them in ten head-row plots in Wooster, Ohio in fall 2022.
