Research Project: Evaluation of Recombinant Newcastle Disease Vaccines (NDV)

Location: Exotic & Emerging Avian Viral Diseases Research

Project Number: 6040-32000-072-004-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2014
End Date: May 29, 2019

Objective:
To compare the efficacy of recombinant Newcastle Disease vaccines strains in comparison to the standard LaSota vaccine.

Approach:
The approach is to utilize a vaccination-challenge scheme that will test different doses of live vaccines against a high dose challenge of a virulent virus that is homologous to the recombinant vaccine. The Investigacon Aplicada, S.A. (IASA) selected vaccines that contain the fusion and hemaglutinin neuraminidase (HN) genes of virulent genotypes will be administered in three different doses to adult specific pathogen free (SPF) birds and the protective effects of the vaccine viruses will be evaluated in high containment labs.
