Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The use of grain protectants to control insect pests in stored bulk grains is reviewed and discussed, with emphasis on those insecticides that are currently registered for use in the United States (US). Contact insecticides and aerosols used to control insects in milling, processing, and warehousing facilities is also reviewed and discussed, again emphasizing insecticides that are used in the US. The discussion of contact insecticides is limited to general surface treatments, and does not include those insecticides used on a limited scale as crack and crevice or spot treatments. The impact of availability of food material as it decreases insecticidal efficacy is stressed to emphasize the importance of sanitation in conjunction with insecticide treatments.
