Outbreak Forecasts and Survey Information

U.S. Grasshopper Forecast Maps (Hazard Maps)

A collection of regional grasshopper forecast or hazard maps for the western United States compiled by USDA-APHIS starting in 1994.  The maps summarize the previous year's grasshopper densities to show the anticipated risk, or hazard, of grasshopper problems throughout the western U.S for the year specified. The number of eggs laid by grasshoppers during the summer and weather conditions in the winter and spring can have large impacts on grasshopper densities, but are not reflected in the forecast maps.

Hazard maps:  2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1995, 1994

Western U.S. Adult and Nymphal Grasshopper and Mormon Cricket Survey Maps

Field surveys of grasshopper densities and mapping were done by USDA-APHIS-PPQ Western Region.

* Please note: Dates on the maps indicate when the map, NOT the survey sampling, was completed. For example, the Grasshopper Nymph Map is an early-season survey, whereas the Adult Map is a late-season survey.
