Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 11/3/1996 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: A variety of soil organic amendments have been widely used as fertilizer supplements in turfgrass management. Evaluation of the effectiveness and performance of these amendments by greenhouse and field experiments have been costly and time-consuming. A tissue culture plate (TCP) screening method was developed as a preliminary test for several organic amendments, such as humic substances and carbohydrates, supplemented with fertilizers. A large scale greenhouse experiment with plant and soil quality measurements, including soil microbial evaluation, is being carried out concurrently. Specific criteria in turn will be developed for the TCP tests. Results from the TCP tests are the bases to select potential organic amendments for further greenhouse confirmation. This research is mainly focused on the development and application of methodology. Potential use of methods for organic soil amendments related to turfgrass management will be discussed. |
