Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 10/29/1995 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Amino acids (AA) and neutral sugars (NS) were determined in humic fractions (HA, FA, and XAD-4 acids) isolated from two soils and their drainage waters and fractionated using the XAD-8 and XAD-4 tandem resin procedure. The AA and NS contents of the soil isolates were significantly greater than those of the waters. The AA and NS in the waters were highest in the HA and least in the FA. For soils, highest NS were in the XAD-4 acids, and least in the FA. In all cases, highest NS were in the isolates at pH 12.6 and least in those at pH 7. The AA were highest in soil HAs and lowest in the FAs. The sugar compositions suggest that plant sources were major contributors to the genesis of humic substances. |
