In Vincent Dietemann, James D. Ellis and Peter Neumann (Editors) "Standard methods for Apis mellifera pests and pathogens", "Selected techniques and protocols in American foulbrood research", The COLOSS BEEBOOK, Volume II. Interpretive Summary: In this paper we describe the disease symptoms and protocols commonly used in research of honey bee bacterial disease, American foulbrood. This is one of the most devastating diseases of the honey bee. It is caused by the spore-forming, Gram-positive rod-shaped bacterium Paenibacillus larvae. Technical Abstract: In this chapter, selected techniques and protocols for American foulbrood research are provided, mostly in a recipe-like format that permits easy implementation in the laboratory. |
